BUCKLIN – John Thomas Luft, 83, passed away June 15, 2021 at the Kansas Soldier's Home, Ft. Dodge, Kansas.

He was born on March 14, 1938, to the parents John and Lula (Dunn) Luft. He spent most of his life in Bucklin, Kansas graduating from Bucklin Schools in 1956. He then attended and graduated from Trinidad Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado where he learned the Gunsmith trade. He served in the United States Army, spending two years in Germany. On September 4 ^th , 1966, he married Karla Kirk and they had two children, John Luft of Taylor, Utah, and Lana Luft, of Villa Rica, Georgia.

He owned and managed the Bucklin Lumber yard several years and worked several other jobs in Bucklin, including the Bucklin Grain Co. and City of Bucklin.

Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid reader of the western and military history. He had a love of county and of our military troops. He was a member of the Bucklin American Legion for 58 years and was the Commander from 1990 to 1998.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Francis Luft, sister, Gloria Clevenger and granddaughter, Kiana Luft.

He is survived by his two children, granddaughter, Kaisha of Atlanta, Georgia and sister, Mattie Saylor of Galveston, Indiana

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, June 25, 2021 at the Bucklin Cemetery with Kevin Salzman officiating and military honors by Julius F. Troehmel American Legion Post 269 and Military Honors for the State of Kansas.  There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.
