Obituary

MINNEOLA, KANSAS - Larry Ray McBee, 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 4, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas.  He was born October 30, 1942 in Meade, Kansas to Ray Emerson and Emogene Louise (Edwards) McBee.

Larry graduated from Minneola High School in 1960.  He married Jeanette Roine McGee on June 16, 1961.  He worked for Natural Gas Pipeline of America and retired in 1998 after 32 years.  He began farming that year and continued until 2017.

He was a member of the Minneola Christian Church where he served on the church board for many years.  He was also a member of the Jaycees, Minneola volunteer fire department where he served as fire chief, and was part of the pit crew for Jim Harkness. Larry was an avid reader and could frequently be found engrossed in his latest western. He was a huge fan of the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and KU basketball.  He loved all sports, but was most passionate about whatever sport his children or grandchildren were involved in.  Hobbies included rebuilding his '51 Chevy pickup, hunting, shooting pool, and visiting the Coop for coffee with friends. Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who spent his free time on remodeling projects for family, the church, the Minneola Home Town Market, and enjoyed getting in his skid-steer to lend a hand to his neighbors with snow removal.  He will be greatly missed.

Larry is survived by his wife Jeanette, daughters Shelly (Randy) Shumate of Minneola, Kansas and Shawna (Courtney) Clarke of Lyons, Kansas, brother, Randall McBee (Gloria) of Newton, Kansas, sister, Sandra (Lee) Bolster of Guthrie, Oklahoma, 13 grandchildren: Shandy Shumate Arend, Brandon Shumate, Brant Shumate, Colton Clarke, Casie Clarke Luedke, Kevin McBee, Shanna Shumate DeVore, Brandy Shumate, Shaley Shumate, Cody Clarke, Braden Shumate, Katy McBee, Kelsey McBee and 9 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and son Shane McBee.
