Obituary

MULLINVILLE – Tamina Sue Fromme, 77, died Tuesday August 11, 2026 at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, Kansas.

She was born March 10, 1949 in Alva, Oklahoma, the daughter of Henry William and Edna Fern (Brensing) Fromme. She graduated from Mullinville Grade School in 1963, later attending Bucklin High School where she graduated in 1967. She enlisted in the United States Army, and served her country proudly and honorably from 1973 to 1975. After her time in the Army, she received a Bachelor’s of Science from Saint Mary of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas in 1983. She also received her Master’s in Education from Lesley University, and attended the Women’s College of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she majored in Technology and Education.

Tamina taught on the Hopi Indian Reservation in Second Mesa, Arizona from 1988 to 1996. After leaving the Reservation in 1996, she began teaching in the Las Vegas school system until 2000, where she then returned back to Kansas and taught in Liberal until 2002. She worked as a teacher at Dodge City Middle School from 2002 to 2004. She spent 2 years working as a Learning Center Coordinator in Sublette. In 2006, she returned back to Mullinville where she spent her last 6 years of teaching.

She was involved in many different organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Church of Christ, Order of Eastern Star, National Education Association, the American Legion Post, and 4-H. She was also a board member on the Mullinville Community Board for 14 years, as well as the Kiowa County Historical Board. Tamina was a Past Honored Queen in the International Order of Job’s Daughter, and the treasurer of Round Barn. She was very active within her community.

At the tender age of 62, she took over the responsibilities of the family farm and learned to work the land she loved. She enjoyed reading and had a unique way with the written word. She won a 99-word essay contest worth $25,000, has published poetry, and was a co-author for 2 Native American Elementary Science Books.

The love of her family came first and teaching second. It did not matter the age of the student; she felt that anyone could learn. Tamina firmly believed that a person who does not read is no better off than a person who cannot read and has limited knowledge. When she was not busy working, she enjoyed using her free time to travel, read, write, and garden. She loved spending time with nature and farming.

She is survived by her 4 children, Thomas Hoban and wife Christie, Woodbridge, Viginia, Charles Venema and wife Kristin, Spring, Texas, Tamina Jose and husband Noel, Corpus Christi, Texas, Dawn Depue and husband Chris, Lees Summit, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded by her life partner, Richard Sherman; her parents; a sister, Mary Fromme; and a brother, Edward Fromme.
